Former Football Association of Maldives (FAM) General Secretary Hussain Jawaz has been appointed as the Deputy Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts.

While the government is yet to officially announce Jawaz's appointment to the Youth Ministry, which currently has 10 deputy ministers, Jawaz has revealed that he has been appointed to the post.

Jawaz, who held various positions in the FAM during his 25-year tenure, resigned from the association in November. At the time of his resignation as General Secretary, he also had not been paid his salary for six months.

Cases of money laundering and corruption have been filed against the association's senior officials, and many of its employees have not received their salaries.

Jawaz, who holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and Sports from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Malaysia, is the longest-serving sports administrator of FAM. He served as the association’s General Secretary since the election of the Executive Committee for FAM.

He served as the General Secretary for both terms of the current FAM President Bassam Adeel Jaleel, and also held the position at the end of the tenure of former President Ilham Ahmed.
