Statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism show that only 200,000 more visitors are required to reach the target number of 1.6 million visitors set for 2022.
Around 58,190 tourists had visited Maldives in November so far. This is an average of approximately 4,500 tourists daily.
The ministry predicts Maldives will be able to reach it's goal by mid-December.
If an average of 5,000 tourists visit the country daily, it is likely that Maldives will exceed its target by the end of the year. Maldives usually sees an increase in visitors at the end of the year as people celebrating Christmas and New Year's holidays visit.
The most number of visitors Maldives saw within a year was in 2019, with 1.8 million tourists. The government predicts they can welcome the same amount of visitors next year.
Maldives celebrated 50 years since tourism was introduced to the country in 2022. The country had also managed to win World's Leading Destination on Friday for the third year in a row by the World Travel Awards, strengthening the nation's brand as a tourist destination.
