Planning Ministry awards six harbour project contracts worth MVR 217 million

The Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure on Sunday awarded contracts to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company ( MTCC), and a private company to develop six harbours totaling MVR 217 million.

Four of the six harbours were awarded to MTCC, while the remaining two were contracted out to a private company, 'Heavy Force'.

MTCC will build harbours in Hangnaameedhoo in Alif Dhaalu Atoll, Himmafushi in Kaafu Atoll, and Feydhoo and Foakaidhoo in Shaviyani Atoll.

As per the agreement, MTCC is to complete the projects within a period of 10 to 16 months.

Heavy Force will develop a harbour and jetty in Rasgetheemu, Raa Atoll and a harbour in Dhidhoo, Alif Dhaalu Atoll, within a period of 10 to 14 months.

Budgeting

ADh. Hangnaameedhoo: MTCC, MVR 32.2 million

K. Himmafushi: MTCC, MVR 24.6 million

Sh. Feydhoo: MTCC, MVR 33.1 million

Sh. Foakaidhoo: MTCC, MVR 55.97 million

R. Rasgetheemu: Heavy Force, MVR 50 million

Adh. Dhidhoo: Heavy Force, MVR 21.9 million

According to Fathmath Shaana Farooq, Director General of the Planning Ministry, these harbour projects awarded under a design and build contract, requires an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to be completed once its architectural designs are finalized.

This process will take about three months, the Ministry official added.
