Minister of Higher Education Dr Ibrahim Hassan, on Wednesday, met with Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed to discuss potential solutions to curb the issue of 'customized assignment-writing businesses' operating in the country, promoting plagiarism among local students.
According to the minister, the businesses cause various challenges in assessing students of their academic skills. The sentiment is also shared by the Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA).
During the meeting, the minister further noted that such advertisements were listed across social media and other online marketplaces, adding that once the Higher Education Bill is ratified, counteraction against the businesses will be strengthened.
However, Maldives Police Service noted that legislations currently in effect can also be used to tackle the issue.
