Fenaka Corporation, on Tuesday, awarded a mega sewerage system project worth USD 53 million (MVR 866 million) to a Sri Lankan firm.
During a ceremony held at the Islamic Centre in capital Male, the agreement was signed between acting Managing Director Mohamed Lam’aan of Fenaka and Managing Director Rajitha Kariyawasan of Sri Lankan firm Haycarb, to establish sewage systems in 20 islands in 13 different atolls within a period of 18 months.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Lam’aan stated that awarding of the mega project marks the fulfilling of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s pledges since the beginning of his term in 2013.
Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim also spoke during the ceremony and stated that sewerage systems have been established in 22 islands so far, with ongoing work of sewerage systems at 83 islands.
