Maintenance work on the Sinamalé Bridge has been resumed by the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC).

The government has entrusted CCCC with the maintenance project for another three years, relying on their expertise from previous work.

In an announcement yesterday, the Ministry confirmed the commencement of repair work on the bridge.

While Chinese technicians will oversee the project, local technicians will also receive essential training to participate in the maintenance efforts.

During the signing ceremony, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, Minister of Construction and Infrastructure, emphasized the importance of training Maldivians to undertake bridge maintenance tasks in conjunction with the maintenance work carried out by CCCC.

Dr. Muththalib stated, "Local technicians will be equipped with necessary skills through comprehensive training programs. Our goal is to empower Maldivians to independently manage and conduct maintenance work under local supervision."

Key areas of training for local technicians include road engineering, safety protocols, landscaping, and bridge maintenance.

The Sinamalé Bridge represents the largest infrastructure investment in the Maldives, with nearly USD 200 million allocated for its construction. The project received significant support from the Chinese government, providing USD 116 million in grants and USD 72 million in loans, while the Maldivian government contributed USD 12 million to the initiative.
