The Minister for Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib has announced that 35 percent of the Thilamalé Bridge Project, connecting Malé, Villimalé, Gulhifalhu, and Thilafushi, has been completed.

Speaking at a press conference to provide updates on Ministry projects, the Minister stated that the bridge construction is set for completion by September 2026.

He noted that 35.53 percent of the bridge work has been finished, with progress ahead of schedule.

"Twenty-four percent of the pre-casting work on the superstructure is complete, putting us 1.11 percent ahead," the Minister added.

Currently, the primary focus is to adhere to the project schedule, with discussions on the bridge's completion timeframe to follow, he explained.

The ministry data stipulates that 58 percent of the piling work on the pillars is done, along with 43 percent of pile capping and 40 percent of pier column work.

Initial estimates suggested that connecting Malé and Villimalé could occur by February next year if work progresses as planned, with the entire project slated for completion by late 2026.

The Thilamalé Bridge, valued at USD 500 million (MVR 7.7 billion), is financed through a USD 400 million line of credit from India's Exim bank and USD 100 million in grants from the Indian government.
