Maldives Parliament said they had completed 38.9 percent of the tasks during the first term of parliament this year.

According to data published by the Parliament, they received a total of 90 cases during the current session, including bills, resolutions, emergency motions, questioning of ministers and other cases.

In addition, they received 103 cases within the year, out of which 118 cases were taken to the parliament sessions and committees.

During this term, the Parliament was able to close 75 cases, completing 38.9 percent of the parliamentary work.

The Parliament closed two bills, and voted on seven resolutions and ten emergency motions.

The most frequent action taken by parliamentarians was summoning ministers to 37 sessions, during which they were questioned a total of 41 times, including the questions posed via writing.

One of the biggest pending works when Parliament went into recess on Thursday was cited by many as the government's proposal not to levy tax on plastic bag bundles.

Although the state tried to expedite the process of the bill, the Parliament went into recess without referring the case to the committee.
