Maldives Police Service announced their decision to review the case of former Minister of Defence, Mohamed Nazim, who was sentenced to 11 years over illegal weapons possession.
Nazim was convicted after a pistol and three bullets were found in his residence in January 2015. However, the Supreme Court overturned the jail sentence imposed on the former Minister of Defence, on December 2018.
Police had earlier disclosed that arrested former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb’s DNA was found on the pistol, while neither Nazim's fingerprints nor DNA evidence was found. Adeeb had also expressed his willingness to give his statement in court.
The police tweeted on Monday night, announcing that the case will be reviewed, upon Nazim's request.
Nazim has denied all accusations against him, maintaining that he had been framed.
