The Ministry of Labor and Skills Development has opened applications for the Minimum Wage Advisory Board across five sectors.
The Ministry stated in its announcement that it is currently establishing the board to oversee and assess the performance of employees across different commercial establishments and workplaces, with the objective of providing guidance on setting minimum wage standards for employees.
The ministry is seeking applications to reinstate the Minimum Wage Advisory Board established under the Employment Act. Individuals interested in joining the board are now invited to register with the Ministry.
The announcement provides an opportunity for individuals employed in associations within five sectors.
The sectors:
- Associations representing the tourism sector
- Associations representing the construction sector
- Associations representing women entrepreneurs'
- Associations representing small and medium enterprises
- Associations representing employees or workers
The announcement requested that individuals interested in joining the Minimum Wage Advisory Board submit their applications before March 26, 00:00 hrs.
According to the Employment Act, the minimum wage should be determined by the Economic Minister based on the recommendations of the Wage Board. This board is comprised of representatives from both employees and employers, and it operates independently to advise on minimum wage matters.
