Differences in opinion within the Minimum Wage Board is causing delays in determining a minimum wage.

Chairman of the Board Riyaz Mausoom told Mihaaru news that determining a minimum wage has been delayed far too long than they had expected. The board has been discussing six proposals at the moment.

Riyaz said the members were in agreement to not accept any more proposals and to settle the discussions of the proposals they had received so far.

They were working to ensure this can be resolved before October 10, he said.

The amount being discussed as a minimum wage is between Rf. 6,700 and Rf. 8,900, with lower wages set for certain categories. Some members have not agreed to the the lower amount, which is one of the issues that is causing the delays.

Minimum Wage Board has a total of 11 members, including five employers and five people that represents employees.
