Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has said that the reconstruction of the Izzuddeen Jetty [President's Jetty] is facing delays due to difficulties in bringing in necessary material from abroad.

Although the company claims that work is still ongoing, many have been saying that work has stalled in recent days. While the roofing of the jetty has been dismantled now for many days, no work is seen to be conducted.

Work on the jetty was commenced by MTCC in early May.

The renovation and reconstruction of the jetty was contracted to MTCC by the government for MVR 11.7 billion. The company is taking on the project under a design and build contract. The jetty is being rebuilt in the style it had earlier been in in the 1950s.

The jetty was officially inaugurated on July 26, 2015. It has been repaired on two different occasions since, with the most recent renovation done in 2017.
