Maldives Coast Guard on Monday started a military training program in with the Indian and Sri Lankan army forces.
During a press conference held to give information about this program held in Maldives, Lieutenant Cornel Mohamed Saleem said that about 200 people from three countries will be involved in the training program named as ‘Dhosthee’.
Since 1992, ‘Dhosthee’ training camp has been occurring once every two years. Thus this will be the 14th time since the programme has begun. Sri Lankan forces joined the programme since 2012.
According to Saleem, India will be providing two vessels from their Navy fleet and a helicopter. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka will provide naval vessel from the country's fleet.
Saleem went on to say that the three countries will have joint training programmes annually, but the final training sessions will be held in Maldives once every two years.
Coast Guard's Major Rizmee Waleedh, stated that though the opening ceremony for the programme on Monday, the main training sessions will start on Tuesday.
The training activities include lifesaving operations and also training to prepare against pirate attacks.
The Director General of both Sri Lanka and Indian Coast Guard participated in the opening ceremony of the ‘Dhosthee’ training camp.
