MDP and Maldivian settled a multi-million Rufiyaa debt owed by the current opposition party to the airline, in an out of court settlement.
Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and national flag carrier Maldivian Aero, have reached an out of court settlement for MDP to pay back over MVR 5.6 million owed to the airline.
The whopping debt was accumulated during the most recent presidential election, when MDP officials travelled across the country for campaign purposes between September and October of last year.
The settlement was reached after Maldivian filed a claim with the Civil Court over the unpaid airfare. Since then MDP has paid off one million Rufiyaa of the debt.
The Civil Court's ruling in the matter today said an agreement was reached after that when both parties engaged in out of court discussions last June to settle the matter. It further detailed that Maldivian had requested to withdraw their claim as MDP has honoured the agreement and paid the first instalment.
As such, the case was dismissed, with the possibility for Maldivian to re-file the case at a later date.
