Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that two more people have been tested positive for COVID-19 from Maldives.

According to the agency, out of the three people tested from Sandies Bathala resort, located in Alif Dhaalu Atoll, two expatriates were tested positive.

However, it is unclear if the two people are resort staff or holiday-goers.

Sandies Bathala Island was already under lockdown after an Italian national holidaying at the resort developed COVID-19 like symptoms.

HPA announced on Sunday that guests are undergoing monitoring and testing. Further, the agency revealed that restrictive measures have been initiated until contact tracing is completed.

Maldives announced the first confirmed cases of COVID-19 late Saturday, after two foreign staff at Kuredu Resort & Spa tested positive for the virus. The resort was quarantined earlier the same day, after an Italian guest who holidayed on the island tested positive for the virus after returning to Italy.

The government had also enacted temporary restrictive measures on Summer Island the same day. The quarantine was lifted in the early hours of Sunday after two guests and five staff members, who exhibited suspected symptoms of COVID-19, tested negative for the coronavirus.

Authorities have urged the public not to panic and refrain from enabling the spread of misinformation. Doctors also called on the people to observe good hygiene and best practices in the prevention and management of viral infections, and to seek medical attention at any sign of flu.
