MFDA registration required for the import of baby bottles and teats

MFDA has announced that registration with the association is mandatory to import products under the Regulation on Import, Produce and Sale of Breast Milk Substitutes in the Maldives. This procedure will be strictly implemented starting July 31st.

MFDA (Maldives Food and Drug Authority) has informed that registration with the association will be required to import baby and toddler bottles and the bottle teats starting August this year.

An announcement by the MFDA stated that, to date, the import permit for the products listed in the Regulation on Import, Produce and Sale of Breast Milk Substitutes in the Maldives were being issued after registration in the ‘Dhiritha’ Portal [An online portal used to speed up and ease the provision of MFDA's services to the public, including registration and permits for imported food products and drugs, and issuing of border health clearance].

The announcement stated that despite this, imports of such goods have ensued without registering in the portal. MFDA has informed to register with the association in order to supply products related to babies and toddlers starting July 31.

Included under this guideline of required registration are special milk products for babies under 3 years, food types prepared for pregnant woman and breast feeders as well as baby bottles and bottle teats.

MFDA has stated that import and sale of products against the guideline is prohibited.
