Supreme Court has also decided they will not accept the case filed over President Elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s wife Saajidha Mohamed not being appointed to the position of Director General of Maldives Food and Drug and Authority (MFDA).

Saajidha, who is employed at MFDA, was promised to be promoted to the position of MFDA’s Director General in 2020. Later, the decision was rescinded stating changes made to the internal administrative structure. However, the organisation had announced later on that they were looking to fill that position.

When Saajidha filed this case with the Employment Tribunal, she requested them to rule the state had dismissed their earlier decision unfairly, and for the tribunal to order them to employee her in that position. However, the tribunal said they will not be able to make a ruling in her favour.

Later, when she filed this case with the High Court, they decided they would not accept the case. When this case was then submitted to the Supreme Court, their judges had ruled last week that the High Court’s decision was correct.

Supreme Court ruled that they cannot rule that she was denied the job because she was married to Dr. Muizzu. They also said that despite the fact she claimed she was discriminated against in the work environment, she failed to detail how she was unfairly treated.

Therefore, the three-judge bench held that the High Court had rightly decided not to accept Saajidha's appeal as it was not sufficient to fit within the appellate body.

The apex court's decision was made by Justice Ali Rasheed Hussain, Justice Aisha Shujoon and Justice Dr. Azmiralda Zahir.
