Maldives Meteorological Center (MET) said the island nation is only experiencing its seasonal weather, and nothing out of the usual weather circumstances.

The island nation has been experiencing torrential rainfall through the southwest season.

Several parts of the country observed consistent rainfall for past 24 hours. MET further confirms many members of the public had commented on weather conditions being adverse compared to previous years.

"There has been no relative difference in the rainfall measured when compared with past five years." Said Ahmed Rasheed, a weather forecaster from MET told Mihaaru news.

We may observe comparatively more rainfall in some months, for instance it may rain more in the current month than preceding month. But this still will remain at the same annual level as any year," he adds.

Rasheed further identified noticeable changes to the local weather. He adds that the rainfall for next two to three days may not subside.

MET records so far indicate the most rainfall recorded was on November 24, 2015, with 228 millimeters of rain at Addu atoll Gan.

The authority also observed September 4, 2022 experienced one of the heaviest rainfalls so far in the year.

MET further claimed the heaviest rainfall for 2022 was recorded on July 31 at Raa atoll Alifushi. The weather authority recorded 157 millimeters of rain on the island.

Additionally, the weather authority has issued out a yellow alert from Haa Alif atoll all the way to Meemu atoll, owing to prospective weather condition worsening. Seas are expected to be generally rough while winds will pick up speed between 25 to 30 miles per hour, while gusts will pick up speed up to 50 miles per hour.
