Couple fined with MVR 20,000 for violating quarantine guidelines to get married, Police said.

According to the police, the couple got married on Tuesday in Gaafu Alif Villingili. They were each fined MVR 10,000.

Current guidelines dictate that if an individual travels from an inhabited island with COVID-19 to an island without any cases, they have to home quarantine for 14 days. The quarantine period will be over once they present a negative result for the COVID test.

If they leave their quarantine site prior to that, it will be considered a violation and the police will take action as necessary.

Gaafu Alif Villingili was put under monitoring status, restricting travel to and from the island earlier last week after COVID cases were found there.
