MET issues yellow alert across Maldives

Maldives Meteorological Service (MET), on Sunday, issued a yellow alert for all atolls across Maldives, predicting severe weather conditions and the possibility of storm surges.

The MET Office projected heavy rain and rough sea conditions with strong winds of between 25 to 30 miles per hour as well as gusts of 55 miles per hour.

The warning was issued for the regions from Haa Alifu Atoll to Thaa Atoll between 1600 to 2000 hrs, while the alert is estimated to be applicable for the region from Laamu Atoll to Addu City between 1515 to 1939 hrs.

According to Maldives' indigenous 'Nakaiy' calendar, the current period 'Fus', the eighth segment of the rainy 'Hulhangu' season, is characterized by extreme stormy weather, rough seas and strong winds.
