President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Saturday, stated that the road to achieving mental wellbeing would necessitate care and support from the entire community.

He made the assertion while speaking at the online global advocacy event, 'The Big Event for Mental Health’ organised by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

During his address, the president stressed society's role in providing emotional support to individuals struggling with mental health issues.

President Solih also highlighted the achievements of the incumbent administration in bolstering mental health services in the country.

Noting that such endeavours are linked to citizens' overall wellbeing, he went on to reaffirm the Maldivian government's commitment to the improvement of mental health services.

Furthermore, he commended professionals and advocates contributing to mental health services across the country, particularly expressing gratitude towards their efforts to ensure the provision of psychosocial support amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Concluding his address, President Solih reiterated his call for mental health disorders to be considered as being equally serious compared to other health issues and asserted that his administration would continue to prioritise mental welfare.

‘The Big Event for Mental Health’, the first online global advocacy event held by the WHO, was initiated on World Mental Health Day. The event featured addresses by WHO Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, world leaders and mental health experts as well as celebrity guests.
