The travel ban has been lifted and passports released of nine persons out of those who had their passports released under the ongoing investigation into the undue allocation of land within the Binveriya scheme.
A Police media official said today that this decision had been reached after discussing with the Prosecutor General, on his advice.
In the case, passports had been seized of twenty persons, including former Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed and his brother Fazeel Rasheed, who is accused of having gained a plot of land unlawfully.
The Police media official said that the two are not included amongst the nine whose passports have been released.
The order to seize passports allege that 50 land plots under the Binveriya scheme had been sold.
With this issue coming to light, fifteen employees of HDC had been dismissed. However, they were reinstated and placed on suspension instead after the new MD took office.
