The Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Saturday, placed six resorts under monitoring after suspected cases of COVID-19 were reported.
The six resorts added to HPA's monitoring list are Reethi Beach Resort, Bandos Maldives, Olhuveli Beach Resort, Meeru Island Resort, Sheraton Maldives Full Moon and Dreamland Maldives Resort.
HPA revealed that efforts were underway to test samples from the foreign individuals that began displaying symptoms of COVID-19 from the aforementioned resorts.
There are a total of seven suspected cases from these five resorts with two being reported from Sheraton Maldives while the remaining resorts each notified authorities of a single suspected case.
All seven individuals are currently under home isolation.
Following the confirmation of Maldives' tenth COVID-19 case on Saturday, HPA implemented a number of severe measures to combat the virus under the recently announced state of Public Health Emergency.
The measures include a 14-day restriction on tourists checking into hotels and guest houses located in Greater Male' as well as prohibiting movement between resorts and inhabited islands for the same period.
HPA also ordered the closure of all parks and public recreational areas in the Greater Male' region and a two week closure of all universities, colleges and training facilities across Maldives.
Notably, the government also announced a 14-day travel ban on arrivals from Spain and certain regions of France and Germany.
