Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has stated action will be taken against pharmacies that do not have essential medicines.
The authority said in a press release that all medicine listed as "essential" are medicine that has to be continuously made available to the consumers. However they have been receiving complaints that some pharmacies do not have essential in medicine always.
Therefore they have instructed pharmacies to ensue essential medicines will always be made available. Pharmacies have to further inform MFDA how much essential medicine they have in stock every three months.
MFDA additionally said they will be taking legal action against pharmacies that fail to provide essential medicines.
The Maldivian government has recently started to control the prices of medicine as well, as some pharmacies tend to over charge for medicines.
