The Civil Court has barred MediaNet and two other local companies from entering into a lawsuit filed by Dhiraagu.

Dhiraagu filed a lawsuit after the Broadcasting Commission updated its regulation, prohibiting licenses to be issued to companies with foreign shares. The move was to encourage local broadcasters to operate in the Maldives.

Following this decision, the commission decided against renewing the broadcasting license issued to Dhiraagu, through which it had provided DhiraaguTV – IPTV services.

MediaNet, along with Eydhafushi Cable Network and Sky Life Co Pvt Ltd requested entering the lawsuit as intervenors. However, Maldives Civil Court held that the parties requesting intervention had no discretion or stake in the case.

Meanwhile, the court earlier ordered the commission’s decision to discontinue license to Dhiraagu to be revoked. This decision was challenged by Broadcasting Commission, and an appeal has already been filed.
