New executive committee members for the Maldives Journalist Association (MJA) have been elected.
During a special journalists' congress held at the conference hall of STELCO, attendees cast discreet votes to elect seven members to MJA's executive committee.
Following an amendment to the general articles of association, two new executive slots specific for women were created, which were also the most competed positions.
The new executive committee members include;
- President: Ali Rifshan/One Online
- Vice President: Mohamed Yamin/ Vaguthu Online
- Secretary General: Ahmed Naaif/Dhauru
- Budget Secretary: Nazim Hassan/Adhadhu
- General members' representative: Mohamed Muzayyin Nazim/Dhauru
- Women's exclusive post: Asima Nizar/Mihaaru
- Women's exclusive post: Aishath Nuzuha/Adhadhu
The new executive committee batch will take helm of the association's responsibilities effective from September 15, 2022.
A total of 78 local journalists took part in the congress, which had proceeded in a hybrid approach with online participation.
The association addresses and advocates on the challenges faced by local journalists.
