Galholu South MP Ahmed Mahloof has been summoned by the police for obstruction of law enforcement officers during the rally held on Friday.

Mahloof has previously served 10 months and 24 days for the same charges. Following his release on June 8, he resumed his stance in the political scene. This would be the third time he is accused of obstructing police offices.

Mahloof and Ihavandhoo MP Mohamed “Muhamma” Abdulla were arrested and released during the rally. Both MP’s have now been sent notices to come in for questioning. Mahloof is summoned at 20:00 today, while Muhamma was asked to come at 14:00.

In addition to the new charges, Mahloof was recently summoned by the Police in relation to comments he made on social media via his twitter account.

The opposition has been highly critical of the police, accusing them of using excessive force to break up the peaceful gathering. Several protestors as well as journalists who were covering the event were badly injured.
