The Hulhumale' South Constituency MDP parliamentary ticket was won by Dr Shamheed, who served as Transport Minister during former President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan's administration.
Dr Ahmed Shamheed has won in the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) parliamentary primaries, confirming his ticket to run for the Hulhumale' South constituency.
He is known to be active in the party's efforts, serving in senior positions within the party's committees. He also formerly served as Transport Minister during the administration of former President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan.
He has also held the post of Chairman at Island Aviation,, and has achieved a PhD in the field of civil engineering.
Dr Shamheed won Saturday's primaries with a total of 187 votes. Contending closest to him was Hussain Nafeez, who received 123 votes.
Nafeez was a senior official at HDC (Urbanco) during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's term in office.
Many existing MPs won tickets in yesterday's opposition primaries for the parliamentary election.
