A total of 18 members of Maldivian Democratic Party's parliamentary group announced their stance against the party's whip lines.

The members who wish to stand against the governing party's whips were asked to put forth their names in a recent message by West-Henveiru MP Hassan Latheef in the parliamentary group's shared WhatsApp group.

A total of 18 members had presented their names complying with the MP's message, which include;

- Hassan Afeef (Vilufushi MP)

- Ilyas Labeeb (Hulhudhoo MP)

- Hassan Shiyaan (Thoddoo MP)

- Mohamed Abdul Shafeeq (Velidhoo MP)

- Ibrahim Rasheed (Central-Maafannu MP)

- Mohamed Waheed (Ungoofaaru MP)

- Mohamed Rasheed (North-Machchangolhi MP)

- Moosa Siraj (Fonadhoo MP)

- Ibrahim Muizzu (North-Henveiru MP)

- Ahmed Haleem (Bilehdhoo MP)

- Mohamed Firushan (Madaveli MP)

- Mikhail Naseem (South-Galolhu MP)

- Abdulla Shaheem (Kanditheemu MP)

The heavy number of members declaring their stance against the party's three-line whips indicate the intensifying clash within the governing party.

Meanwhile the ruling party is currently limping for progression as the party observes mounting clashes between two distinct factions within it - one led by Parliament Speaker and original founding member Mohamed Nasheed and the other led by Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Nasheed claims the party's majority had banded behind him while Solih's faction include incumbent Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail as well as the party's Chief Whip and Vaikaradhoo MP Abdulla Ziyad.

Interestingly all the members who put forth names voicing their stance against the party's whips belong to Nasheed's faction, hinting prospect for more intense clash.
