Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has been served a 14 days’ notice to respond to his no-confidence motion submitted to the parliament.

Deputy Speaker of parliament and North Galolhu MP Eva Abdulla said that the notice was sent to the Foreign Minister on Sunday, May 21.

The no-confidence motion for Minister Shahid was submitted by the opposition in connection with the Chagos issue. The motion was signed by 13 parliamentarians.

The opposition has also submitted a no-confidence motion against Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath. Additionally, efforts are underway to collect the required signatures to submit a resolution to remove President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih from office. According to sources, over 20 signatures have already been obtained for this resolution.

To submit a no-confidence motion against a Cabinet Minister in the parliament, a minimum of ten signatures is required. However, for the motion to be passed, it needs the support of the majority of the parliament, which is 43 members out of the total 87 parliamentarians.
