Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that it is necessary to work with renewed vigour and courage to protect the rights and powers granted to citizens.
In a post on social media platform X conveying regards on the occasion of Republic Day, the former leader asserted that in a republic, the powers of the State rest with citizens.
He said that as it is a fundamental basis of a republic to maintain the powers vested in citizens, it is vital to renew efforts to protect those rights and powers today.
Republic Day is celebrated on November 11 annually to mark the establishment of the Maldives Republic in 1968.
The current Republic Day is being marked since the establishment of the Maldives Constitution following the kingdom of Mohamed Fareed, when the elected President Ibrahim Nasir took oath office on November 11, 1968.
