A petition has begun making rounds bearing signatories, all who wish to dismiss both Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed and Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla from their designations.

Nasheed's no-confidence movement began after his stern criticism to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his administration followed after Parliament Speaker defended his alleged younger brother.

The Speaker's younger brother, Nazim Sattar, recently became embroiled in allegations of engaging in same-sex acts with an expatriate.

Sattar had been arrested over the allegations.

Several parliamentary members of the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) have begun lambasting the Parliament Speaker over his stance regarding his younger brother.

MDP parliamentary group's leader Mohamed Aslam recently confirmed on attempts to dismiss Nasheed from his held position.

The online petition on "Change.org" calling for Nasheed's impeachment, read that the Parliament Speaker continuously mocked the Maldivian people while he challenged the island nation's social and Islamic values.

"Today he defends immorality and is trying to bring down the whole country. We call upon all members of parliament to impeach the Speaker Mohamed Nasheed and the Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla," the statement on the online petition further read.

At the time of writing, a total of 847 bore signatures on the petition.

Nasheed in his stance to defend younger brother Sattar, accused President Solih of adultery, claiming of acquiring incriminating photographs of the Maldivian head of the state.
