First Lady Fazna Ahmed on Tuesday, launched 'In My Mind', a creative art exhibition focusing on mental wellbeing.
Featuring a total of 143 artworks, the two-day exhibition is hosted at National Art Gallery by Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH)'s Centre for Mental Health in collaboration with Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage, National Center for the Arts and Rotary Club of Male'.
According to the organisers, the exhibition aims to increase awareness on mental health issues and eliminate public stigma regarding mental health through artistic expressions showing the beauty of minds.
Noting that the artists behind the work on display included various individuals between the age-range of two to 70 years old, the organisers spoke of how the limelight of the exhibition focuses on mental well-being rather than mental illnesses, to present matters of the mind in a more positive light.
Furthermore, organisers revealed that more events raising awareness on mental health will take place in the upcoming period in celebration of World Mental Health Day celebrated on October 10.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the First Lady highlighted that the establishment of the Centre for Mental Health saw a clear rise in the number of people seeking treatment, adding that she believes that a comprehensive service with increased efficiency and resources is essential.
She further stated that enhanced treatment plans are imperative for the success of a comprehensive therapeutic programme, noting that services must remain uninterrupted while ensuring continued availability of medicine and ease of access to therapists.
First Lady Fazna also iterated her aim for well-established services, increased bed space at the wards and better facilities at hand.
The exhibit will be open for public viewing until 2200hrs Wednesday night, with a short break between 1800hrs to 2000hrs.
