Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) expressed their hopes of an unprejudiced and virtuous government under the President-Elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's regime.
In a statement released by the party, MDA congratulated the President-Elect on winning the Presidential Election on Sunday, and expressed their hopes of Solih's future regime being just, incorruptible, ethical and non-discriminatory.
MDA is conceivably best known for being in coalition with the current ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) during the 2013 presidential elections.
Furthermore, MDA acknowledged the significant difference with which Solih won the election and recognized President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's efforts towards a smooth transition of power.
"MDA always wishes all Maldivians a prosperous future, and we assure you that we will work hand-in-hand in voicing the concerns of the people, in line with the conduct of the people as well", was disclosed in the statement.
MDA leader Ahmed Siyam did not participate in any of the campaign canvassing of PPM despite his close relationship with President Yameen, leading to much speculation about the strength of the ruling coalition. However, prior to and during the election campaigns, President Yameen repeatedly stated MDA as still being in alliance with PPM.
Amidst the campaigning, President-Elect Solih had extended invitations to MDA to join the opposition coalition, which Siyam did not respond to.
A council meeting was held in order to finalize the alliance between PPM and MDA. Unfortunately, it was not finalized within this meeting, but vice president Ali Mauroof was put in charge of running the party.
