Male' City Council has declared today that they have removed 224 damaged and abandoned motorcycles during their efforts to remove unused vehicles kept on the streets of capital Male' City for long periods of time.
As part of their work to restore order and beautify the city streets, the council collaborated with Maldives Police Service and once again initiated efforts to remove old vehicles abandoned on the city streets yesterday.
Among motorcycles removed from various areas across the city, some were heavily damaged with several missing parts.
The council earlier revealed that many vehicles parked on the roads have remained unused for several years - some of which are worn down with many damaged parts.
The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation also coordinated efforts with Male' City Council, Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO), and the police earlier in February to tow and destroy old vehicles parked on the streets of Male' and Hulhumale'.
At that time, 200 old and unused vehicles were removed and destroyed from the roads in Male' and Hulhumale'.
Police had also resumed issuance of parking tickets and towing of unlawfully parked vehicles earlier in March in an effort to control the escalated parking situation in the streets of Male’ as well.
