The state has contested the High Court's decision to grant conditional bail to Halimath Lamha, a key suspect in the murder case of Filipino nurse Mary Grace, employed at IGMH.

Lamha secured bail for three months from the trial court on Thursday, subject to the condition that she remains within her residence between 10 pm and 6 am and seeks court permission for any departure from the capital. Despite Lamha being in judicial custody, the state rejected her plea, citing concerns about the continued risk to community safety.

Arrested in December 2021, Lamha faces accusations of aiding Mary's husband, Marvin, in the murder. Prosecutors claim Lamha was present during the murder, orchestrating a scene to suggest Mary died of dengue. Postmortem tests revealed the presence of potent injections, traced back to Lamha's residence, leading to three charges against her.

The Prosecutor General's office has petitioned the High Court to annul Lamha's bail order, awaiting the court's decision on the matter. Meanwhile, Marvin, charged with culpable homicide, sought bail, but the court opted to prolong his detention.
