After spending almost two years in custody for her alleged involvement in the murder of Filipino nurse Mary Grace, who worked at IGMC, Halimath Lamha was released on bail by the Criminal Court today.
Lamha's husband, Marvin, an employee at IGMH, faces murder charges, while Lamha is accused of complicity and is also charged with possession of injections.
Arrested in December 2021, Lamha was granted bail for a three-month period with specific conditions by a local court on Wednesday. These conditions include restrictions on leaving home between 10 pm and 6 am, with court permission required for any departures from the capital.
During the last hearing, her counsel had sought bail, requesting release even if with the use of a tag. However, the court did not provide comments on the tag and proceeded with the decision to release Lamha.
In the previous hearing, the state argued that there were no changes in the circumstances surrounding Lamha's detention, making her release inappropriate. Lamha's defense contended that individual rights, including those of the community, should be safeguarded. Additionally, Lamha, who is undergoing treatment in jail, faces health issues.
The prosecution has presented a substantial number of witnesses in the case, and the process of recording evidence is currently underway.
