The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has directed the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) to retrieve MVR 37 million from an individual who profited from the MMPRC scandal.

The money was ordered to be recovered from Abdullah Asim, who received USD 2,460,000 (MVR 37,933,200) from MMPRC for leasing islands and lagoons for tourism purposes.

The ACC issued the order on Tuesday, February 14.

Following the investigation, a list of 281 individuals accused of benefiting from the theft and fraud through MMPRC was compiled. This includes 119 individuals in various state positions and 16 current members of Parliament.

The MMPRC embezzled MVR 1.22 billion from islands and lagoons allocated to the state. A significant portion of this sum was paid out to various individuals through a private company called SOF.

Several individuals, including former President Abdulla Yameen, former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, former MMPRC Managing Director Abdulla Ziyath, and local businessman Hamid Ismail, have been found guilty in a variety of cases related to the MMPRC scandal.
