COVID-19: Maldives begins to administer second dose

Maldives began administering the second dose of COVIDSHIELD under the country's vaccination programme "Covid-19 Dhifaau" on Saturday, April 3.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced that currently, inoculation of the second dose was open for those who received their first dose of COVIDSHIELD between February 1 to 7 at the specified vaccination centres.

Following the first day of vaccination, the agency revealed that 1,149 were given the second dose in the greater Male' region.

The Maldives began vaccinations on February 1, with COVISHIELD, which was manufactured by India’s Serum Institute under a special license from AstraZeneca. Since then, China’s Sinopharm vaccine has been approved and is being used in the vaccination program.

The second dose of COVIDSHIELD was started after eight weeks of the first. Meanwhile, the second dose of the Sinopharm vaccine will be administered after four weeks of the first.
