Local telecommunications giant Dhiraagu, on Monday, established hotspots at parks in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale’ and Villimale’ under a programme to usher in a digital Maldives.

Male’ Mayor Shifa Mohamed, Dhiraagu CEO and Managing Director Ismail Rasheed and senior members of the company attended the event held to officiate the installation of the Wi-Fi hotspots.

“We have installed Dhiraagu hotspots in the most densely populated parks, which will allow one to use Wi-Fi even though they do not have credit”, said Ismail.

Mayor Shifa declared that as the internet allows dispersed Maldivians to stay connected, it, therefore, is a necessity.

“Schoolchildren often visit these parks. Now they will be able to use the internet to study and on field trips. They should use this to their benefit”, said Shifa.

The programme will allow people to use the Wi-Fi hotspots for 30 minutes free. Internet add-ons will also be available.
