Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)’s Fire and Rescue Services, on Wednesday, confirmed that the installation of fire hydrant systems on Majeedhee Magu, the main road of capital Male’, is currently underway.
According to MNDF, a total of 12 fire hydrants will be installed under this project, carried out in collaboration with the National Planning and Housing Ministry and Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC).
Noting that three fire hydrant systems have already been installed, MNDF estimated that installation of all the systems will be completed within the first week of January.
The equipment required to install the fire hydrants are provided by Fire and Rescue Services.
Maldives’ congested capital, described often as a fire hazard, has recorded severe blazes in the past few years which has resulted in loss of property, homes and on some occasions, lives.
The public has pressured authorities to take adequate measures to prevent repetition of such incidents, with citizens echoing the need for decentralisation to reduce fire hazards in Male’ City.
