The Parliament on Monday passed a motion to extend sessions of the last term until upcoming Saturday.
The motion was passed with the majority vote of 61 members. Two members voted against the motion while one other member abstained from voting.
Although the Parliament previously passed to continue sessions until Thursday, Speaker Mohamed Nasheed announced during Monday's sitting that sessions must go on till Saturday to conclude pending work.
Currently, the most pending work is the passing of the MVR 37 billion budget estimated for 2020. The Parliament's Budget Committee has submitted the budget report to the parliament floor after reviewing.
However, the committee's report is yet to be tabled at the Parliament.
According to the Parliament regulations, the first term will continue from February to April, while the second term's sessions are scheduled from June to August. The last term takes place in October and November.
