The Maldives Minister of Defense Mariya Didi and her Indian counterpart Sri Rajnath Singh Maldives Minister held talks recently to explore ways of strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

During his three-day visit to the Maldives, Minister Sri Rajnath Singh made a courtesy call to Minister Mariya Didi on Monday, May 1 at the main headquarters of the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), Bandaara Koshi. The ministers emphasized the long-standing bilateral union between Maldives and India and explored additional ways to improve their ties.

- Strengthening capabilities in defense and economy

- Conducting joint training programs

- Enhancing mutual relationship between the countries at a people-to-people level

The ministers affirmed their commitment to strengthening ties and assured the cooperation of their respective governments in the aforementioned areas.

The ministers discussed the evolving global defense landscape and the challenges faced by their respective countries in ensuring regional security. They emphasized the significance of mutual cooperation to address the challenges and stressed the importance of maintaining peace and harmony in the region.

The ministers also stressed the importance of upholding international laws and conventions, and enforcing them in their respective countries to ensure regional security. They expressed appreciation for the achievements the countries made in joint defense and military initiatives.

Both ministers agreed to provide extensive support in counter-terrorism, disaster management, cyber-security, and maritime security.

Minister Mariya highlighted the Indian government's ongoing support to the Maldives military and extended her gratitude to both the government and the people of India.

Besides Minister Mariya, the Chief of Defense Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal, Deputy of Defense Ministry Hassan Zameel, Vice Chief of Defense Force Brigadier General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef attended the meeting.
