In a post on X, the Minister said that as per the President's instructions, the Local Government Ministry is closely monitoring the damage caused by the rains and troubles faced by citizens through the help of island councils.
He said that ministry staff had visited Himmafushi Council Member Wafiyya Ibrahim, who had gotten electrocuted while trying to save the equipment in the flooded Himmafushi Council offices.
The government has said that efforts are ongoing to provide assistance to those affected in yesterday's rains.
NDMA said that reports had been received from 774 places in Male' seeking assistance. Of this, 554 had appealed for assistance in stacking sand bags at entryways. Rapid assessments were conducted at 53 residences.
NDMA said that of these, 226 people from 36 residences had been provided temporary shelter and food.
