Two speedboats collide leaving five injured

Two speedboats have collided near Hulhumalé harbor leaving five passengers with serious injuries, reports Maldives Coastguard.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) said the collision involved a speedboat from Joy Islands with tourists onboard and a vessel from Leo Trading carrying its employees.

The Joy Islands vessel had 13 passengers onboard with three crew members. The passengers onboard the speedboat did not sustain serious injuries and were immediately transported to Velana International Airport (VIA) for their outbound travel.

However, due to the impact, three employees and two crew members onboard Leo Trading's vessel sustained serious injuries.

The injured individuals were transferred to Tree Top Hospital in Hulhumalé for medical attention. Additionally, the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has reported that the speedboat's captain is in critical condition.
