A Maldivian has sustained serious injuries in an accident that occurred in Bangladesh yesterday.

An official of 'Hidhmaiy', an NGO that works to provide aid to muslims in poverty across the globe, provided details about the accident. He said that the injured is Hussain Haisham, an Operations Manager of the NGO who had gone to Bangladesh to lay the foundation for a mosque they were building there.

Haisham met with the accident during an eight hour car ride to Chittagong from Dhaka when the driver had fell asleep at the wheel.

The official said that the car have gone out of control, colliding with a tree, and causing extensive injuries to both the driver and Haisham, who had also been asleep in the backseat at the time.

Another member of the NGO had also been in the vehicle at the time, but he did not receive serious injuries in the accident.

The official said that Haisham's femur had been broken in the accident.

"They were very close to their destination when the driver, too, dozed, resulting in the accident. Haisham was also asleep at the time. The driver also received extensive injuries. The car is also very damaged," he said.

Haisham was first taken to a hospital close to the accident site. However, with the hospital not being able to provide the necessary treatment, he was transferred to Dhaka once again through a long trip. At the next hospital, there were delays in undertaking the surgery, so he was once again transferred, this time to a private hospital. There, the surgery on his leg is scheduled to take place this afternoon.

Hidhmaiy NGO is currently building four mosques in Bangladesh. Haisham was in Bangladesh to lay the foundation for a mosque funded by a donor.
