ThilaMale' Bridge: 33 percent completed

State Minister Thoaam said that in comparison with the work the schedule, the speed of the bridge construction is 1.2 percent ahead at this point.

As of today, 33 percent work on the ThilaMale' Bridge has been completed.

The ThilaMale' Bridge is a project being conducted with the aid of India to connect Male', VilliMale', Gulhi Falhu and Thilafushi.

On Saturday, a team from Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure - including State Ministers, Deputy Ministers and engineers - visited the bridge construction site to observe the progress of the work.

After inspection, State Minister Ibrahim Thoaam posted on social media platform X that 54.4 percent of the piling work of the bridge has been completed.

"Overall, 33.4 percent of the total project has been completed," he said.

He further said that in comparison with the work the schedule, the speed of the bridge construction is 1.2 percent ahead at this point.

"The Ministry is researching any setbacks and challenges faced during the work, and taking preventive steps to ensure there is no interruption to work," he said.

The Ministry has previously said that if work proceeds on schedule, the section of the bridge connecting Male' and VilliMale' will reach completion by February 2025. The entire bridge could then be completed by late 2026.

The ThilaMale' Bridge is projected to cost USD 500 million (MVR 7.7 billion). These amounts are reached through USD 400 million dollars given through line of credit from India's Exim Bank and a grant of USD 100 million dollars from the Government of India.
