Afcons to contract additional engineers to expedite bridge development

Afcons Infrastructure revealed it will be contracting additional batches of engineers to accelerate the construction of Thilamale' Bridge project.

The contractor will be hiring extra hands to ensure the project concludes by July 2023, the contracted period of completion.

The confirmation was made through a news conference at Afcons Infrastructure's headquarters in India in the presence of Maldivian media correspondents.

During the media trip to India, senior officials of Afcons met with the reporters to provide detailed information about the bridge project.

The Plan

Afcons revealed that it will first construct the bridge structure linking Maldives capital Male' City with Vilimale'.

The contractor expects completion of the bridge structure by July or August of 2023.

Construction of the bridge structure linking Vilimale' and Gulhifalhu will be completed by December 2023 while Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi will be linked through the bridge structure by 2024.

The company revealed that the mega-scale bridge project will be fully completed by December 2024.

The Male' Industrial Village will be used as the construction site for the bridge project, for which the zone's proprietorship has been shifted from Male' City Council to Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (MNPHI).

The Industrial Village will house the equipment and raw materials required for the structure development.

The Project

Under the Thilamale' Bridge project a 6.47 kilometers long bridge with a causeway will be developed that will link the islands of Male', Vilimale', Thilafushi and Gulhifalhu.

The main bridge structure between each island will have 140 meters, and a marine viaduct of 1.45 kilometers will be installed in deeper waters while 2.32 kilometers of marine viaduct will be installed across the shore and the seas between the islands. Additionally, Afcons will construct 2.96 kilometers of road structure adjusted with inlands.
