Police have announced that they are looking for eye witnesses to the December 27 accident where a police car and a motorcycle collided.
In an announcement today, Police said that if there are any witnesses to the accident which occurred where Nirolhu Magu meets Gul-alaamaa Hin'gun, they are encouraged to contact the Police on 9444880.
The accident left the 19 year old driving the motorcycle severely injured. He is still receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
In a previous statement, Police said that the driver of the motorcycle had had his license held for breaking traffic laws. They further said that they will look into whether there is any negligence on the part of the officer driving the police car.
The family of the accident victim, however, reject police claims. They said that a motorcycle the youth had been driving a few days earlier had been stopped by police for having modifications done to it, for which the owner of the vehicle had been duly fined. They said that they were not aware that the youth's license had been held during the incident, and said they will appeal to police to provide documentation to prove the license had been held.
The family cited eye witnesses to the accident and said that the Police car had not been facing the direction which it would have if it were crossing across Nirolhu Magu. As such, they maintain that there is police negligence as well in the accident.
