Former President and Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has expressed confidence that MDP's candidate Adam Azim, who won the Malé City Mayoral election, will not disappoint the people of Malé City.

Speaking at a party rally held at Sultan Park to express gratitude to the people of Malé for electing Azim for the mayoral seat, President Solih said that today's victory was the result of hard work.

He said that Azim had taken on the role of mayor to fulfill his legal obligations. He expressed confidence that Azim would not disappoint the people of Malé.

"Adam Azim will not disappoint the people of Malé City. Keep that assurance. The MDP will not let down the people of Malé. Adam is here with a vision and a manifesto," he said.

Azim has assumed this position to transform Malé in accordance with the desires of the people and to address the congestion issues in the city, he said.

"To clean up this city. I assure you that we, MDP, will continue to stand with Azim in doing so," he said.

"With today's election the residents of Malé has sent a message that the statements, deceit, hatred and falsehoods made by this government to come to power are now exposed," Solih said.

"Seventy-one percent have said no to the policies of this government. Less than two months after coming to power, people have come out and said no to this government. They did not reject policies without reason. It is because the statements, deceit, hatred, and lies by this government to come to power are now exposed," Solih said.

"The true nature of the government is beginning to be revealed today. Residents of Malé City have said no. I would say that in the future, the day when the whole country will say no to this government is very close," Solih said.

Solih has urged President Muizzu to promptly allocate the land designated for the people of Malé City under the housing schemes initiated by the MDP government.

"I would like to tell President Muizzu not to delay. Begin immediately handing over the plots we allocated to the residents of Malé. Do not relocate the people of Malé to Fushi Dhiggaru Falhu. Hand over the flats," Solih said.

"Then there is the parliamentary election. That is what President Muizzu should do if he wants the approval and vote from the residents of Malé,"

Otherwise, the people will once again say no to this government, he said.

More than 17,000 people cast their ballots in Saturday's mayoral election. Adam Azim emerged victorious with 44 percent of the votes, with his closest contender being People's National Congress candidate Azima Shakoor.
